What is fundus angiography?
Flourescein Angiography is a very simple but specific diagnostic to know the detail health of retinal blood vessels. In this test we inject a small quantity of flourescein intra-venous through a canula and take some pictures of the retina (the seeing portion of the eye) at a rapid sequence on a fundus camera. Abnormal blood vessels will show a leaking of the dye in the test. Hence how much laser and where it has to be done is determined with the help of this test.
What are the side effects?
This is a very safe test but adverse reactions are seen occasionally, the most common being nausea and vomiting and if you take a few deep breaths, it normally passes away. You would pass dark colored urine and skin may look pale for a day or two. The other adverse effects may be like rash etc. Serious side effects which can be life threatening though rare have been observed.
What is Indocyanin Green Angiography?
Mirchia’s Laser Centre in keeping with the tradition of pioneering new advancements in ophthalmology has another first to its credit. It is the only centre in the region to have an Indocyanin Green Angiography unit.
Advantages of ICG (Indocyanin Green Angiography)
- This dye delineates the choroidal vasculature in a better way and hence very useful in diagnosing certain forms of Wet Age Related Macular Degeneration.
- Like the FFA, in ICG also we inject a small amount of dye intravenous and serial retinal pictures are taken in succession
Treatment of WET ARMD
- Anti CEGF infections into the vitcal cavity is the most effective and accepted treatment for WET ARMD. All the anti VEGF drugs i.e AVASTIN, LUCENTIS,ACCENTRIX, MAGUGEN, are available at our centre.
